JANUARY 2012
SA WELSH & RP YOUNGSTOCK SHOW
The first show for 2012 proved a good one. We only took 6 ponies and were thrilled to say they all came home with 2 broad ribbons each. Numbers were very low for this show which was disappointing however here are their results. R Sunchance went one better than last year winning Champion Welsh B colt, Supreme Welsh B, Best Welsh In Hand (all in Ring A) and then went on to be Supreme Welsh Exhibit of Show. Imperial Aden was Reserve to R Sunchance in ring A. Ring B he was Champion Welsh B colt and Supreme Welsh B Exhibit. R Simply Delightful was Reserve Champion Welsh B filly in Ring A. Ring B she was Champion Welsh B filly. R Springlane was Champion WM colt and Supreme WM in both Rings plus won his Foal Futurity class. R Blissful was Reserve Champion Welsh C filly in both rings. R What Ho our 15hh 2yr old Part Welsh Cob gelding was Reserve Champion Part Welsh Gelding in both rings.
DECEMBER 2011
JUDGING APPOINTMENT/NZ TRIP
Sarah was invited to judge in New Zealand at the Taupo Welsh Show and thought why not celebrate her 50th birthday there as well. Peter and Sarah spent 16 days traveling around the North Island and Sarah spent her birthday swimming with wild dolphins. They even managed a few Stud visits while they were there.
EA NATIONAL SHOW HORSE & RIDER CHAMPIONSHIP
Words cannot describe how amazing it is to qualify for this event let alone win it! To win it twice is just a crazy dream.......well that crazy dream came true Rivington Royal Hiccup who won the Small Show Hunter Pony in 2008 did it again in 2011. So proud of her and her 10yr old jockey Victoria Fricker. The judges loved them too with all three giving them 1st. Thanks to Margaret Fricker (production), Elizabeth Fricker (jockey's maid), Isabelle Barker (owner/education), Carly Depledge (make-up), Betsy Chibnall (tail), Penny Dawes (mane) and Judy Kaponica (coach extrodinaire). This is the team who behind the scenes works damn hard to get the results even with a pony who requires minimal work.
NOVEMBER 2011
JUDGING APPOINTMENTS/STUD VISIT
The next weekend Sarah had another judging appiontment. This time in NSW judging the Northern NSW All Welsh Show over 2 days. Very exhausting but thoroughly enjoyable with some stunning ponies shown. The venue was one of the best I've seen yet.
Sarah was invited to judge Welsh at a Charity Youngstock Show at Oxley in VIC. Pity the numbers were low but the quality on the whole was high. Pen and Sarah took the opportunity to drive over and pick up Imperial Magdelena (Imperial Justify x Trentlyn Marnie) a beautiful bay half sister to Imperial Mariah. Mark Bullen kindly looked after us over the weekend and afterwards Maggie made the long trek home with us.
SA ALL WELSH SHOW
After last years massive effort of 16 ponies we toned it down a bit taking only 8 led day and 4 Ridden day. We started the day with R Springlane Reserve Champion WM colt. Then big brother R Spring Rain came out to win the Senior WM stallion class and Champion WM Stallion. What a thrill when R Spring Rain's son R Ascot came out after winning the Junior WM stallion class to stand Reserve Champion. The Welsh B's had an exceptional day as well with the new colt Imperial Aden taking home the Champion Welsh B colt. R Sunday was Reserve Champion Welsh B mare and her daughter R Sunday Best not only won her yearling filly class beating her sibling and stable mate R Simply Delightful but went throught to be Horsegate Jasmine Supreme Champion Welsh B exhibit and took home the Peter Lowe Youngstock Trophy after winning Supreme Welsh Youngstock of Show.
The Ridden day was just as good with new rider Abbie Bernardo clicking with R Windchime, they took home Champion Welsh Hunter and Champion Welsh Childs Pony. R Royal Hiccup was Reserve to her in both Championships and also took out the Champion Welsh LR/First Ridden and the Fancy Dress plus all the senior novelty events. She was also Reserve Champion ridden WM to R Ascot who was Champion. We also took home the Most Successful Stallion Award with R Ascot and the Most Successful Exhibitor of Show Award.
OCTOBER 2011
ESA- HOTY
R Windchime (Small Show Hunter) and R Hurrah both narrowly missed out on qualifying for the EA Nationals but little miss R Royal Hiccup did it again winning the Small Show Hunter Pony of the Year for the 3rd consecutive year. Victoria Fricker was once again in the saddle. Saddly it was Emily Hoare's last ride on Charlie, we wish her well on her beauitiful pony Bosco.
SHC-HOTY
A very successful Grand National qualifier with all 3 ponies qualifying. We were thrilled to get not one double but two with newcommer R Hurrah (rider Izabelle Krieg) Champion Lead Rein Pony OTY and her older half sister R Royal Hiccup (rider Monique Shattell) Reserve. Then in the Small Show Hunter class R Windchime (rider Isabelle Barker) finally got up and won the Champion over R Royal Hiccup (Victoria Fricker).
Pt Elliot Ag
R Hurrah, R Windchime and R Harriet all won their classes and came home with 3 champions and a Reserve.
Strathalbyn Ag
R Hurrah had a busy but very successful show starting with the Lead Rein classes with wins with both riders Izabelle and Milly and Champion LR pony. In the hunters she won both classes and Champion. R Harriet also had a brilliant show with little Izabelle winning all her classes, Reserve Champion small pony in both rings and topped it off with Champion Childs Pony, Galloway or Hack.
Yankalilla AG
R Hurrah won both her height classes in both rings and Reserve Champion Show Hunter in ring 2. R Windchime won both her classes. R Harriet aged 20 is being school master to 6yr old Izabelle (our LR jockey), other than two falls they came home with Reserve Champion small pony.

Trip to Victoria
Penny and Sarah did a flying trip to Victoria staying a Imperial Stud and visiting Weston Pk, Nattai River and Indi Stud's. A tall, elegant, dark chestnut, 2yr old, B colt by Eyarth Tigra x Imperial Lady Anouska was purchased from Mark Bullen and the well known Welsh Mountain stallion Imperial Beethoven from Daniel Harvey. Imperial Aden will hopefully grace the Show ring this coming season.
JUNE 2011
Rivington Stud wins the Dinah Creswick Breeders 2010-2011 Trophy
We are extremely proud to win this prestigious award and would like to thank all those that helped make it possible. This award is calculated from points gained in Welsh classes at state by state All Welsh Shows by ponies bred but not necessarily owned by a stud. Previously it was a National award and as such Rivington had placed 2nd every year till 2009 when Victoria became the first state to host the award. Rivington Stud has many of it's Welsh Mountain ponies going back to Nattai ponies and interestingly all those shown at the 2010 SA All Welsh Show were descendants of Nattai Vychan and or Nattai Little Gypsy. Both ponies and their progeny leave us special memories of Lady C and her world famous Nattai Stud. We feel very privileged indeed.
MAY 2011
SA RIDING PONY FOAL SHOW
A relatively easy day with only 3 foals. R Simply Delightful, R Folk Singer and R Blissful were each Champion of their section in both rings. R Folk Singer was Supreme Welsh Foal in Ring 2 (Roger Searle) and R Simply Delightful was Supreme in Ring 1 (Caroline Parker) before being awarded Grand Supreme Welsh Foal of Show under both judges. All foals are now enjoying time out in the paddock.
SA WELSH FOAL SHOW
Sarah prepared 8 foals with the help of Emily & Tayla who were staying at the stud over the school holidays. Fenella & Isabelle helped show them on the day along with our amazing organiser Carly. We took 7 on the day leaving a very promising Sec A filly at home as we felt she didn't have quite the finish on her we wanted. Her day will come. R Sunday Best (Welsh B filly) stole the hearts of the judges winning Supreme Welsh Foal under each and therefore automatically winning Best Welsh Foal of Show. The grey half sister R Simply Delightful was Reserve in Ring 2 (John While). Another close relative the dark palomino colt R Sun Shower was Reserve in Ring 1 (Helen Dohan). The dark grey Welsh Mountain colt R Folk Singer was Reserve in Ring 1 and Champion in Ring 2 where the judge in the Supreme announced he would have been his Reserve Supreme. The Welsh Mountain filly R Rachel definitely won the best behaved award but just didn't show enough spark and still standing a credible 2nd under both judges. In the Section C's we took two very different type fillies with the chestnut R Blissful coming home with the honors in Ring 1 and Reserve in Ring 2. The bay R Image was 3rd and 2nd. A very tiring day for the Foals who were glad to get home.

NOVEMBER 2010
IMPERIAL/BAMBOROUGH/AMARANDA SALE
Penny, Sarah and Robyn Johnston travelled to NSW for the sale. We had never been and with Jill Grant's passing thought it might be our last chance. We took a float as both Robyn and Sarah were determined to purchase a pony each. The first day was youngstock day with many beautiful ponies. Sarah had just had her two elderly Imperial H mares put down and was very fortunate to be the winning bidder or Imperial Hylea a lovely black 2yr old Welsh Mountain filly by Imperial Lookout and out of Imperial Hyfyd. Her yearling grey full sister sold for $9,000. Robyn bought a lovely black grey yearling Welsh B filly by Eyarth Tigra and on the second day purchased a beautiful Welsh B mare & filly package.
A great weekend!
SA ALL WELSH SHOW
Isabelle and Sarah under took the mamoth task of preparing 17 ponies for this show. We had to rely on very good friends Nikki Mckay, Veronica Smith, Heather & Liam Hoare, Sue Castely and Carly Depledge to help get them all there. Thank you so much! As the show had been moved to Mt Pleasant this meant an over two hour trip. This will probably be the last time the stud will ever show such a big team but that is the shows loss in moving to another venue! SA doesn't have big numbers of Welsh ponies and for many many years we have supported the show with big teams. Anyway we had a very successful show with all ponies coming away with a bow. Major winners were: R Sun Shower Best Foal of Show. R Sunday Champion Welsh B mare. R Sunmist Champion Welsh B Stallion. R Springlane Champion Welsh Mountain colt. R Gypsy Joker Champion Welsh Mountain Stallion. R Royal Hiccup Champion Welsh Lead Rein/First Ridden. Champion Welsh Childs Pony. Reserve Champion Ridden Welsh Mountain Pony. R Ascot Champion Ridden Welsh Pony. Reserve Champion Ridden Welsh Hunter. Rivington Stud Most Successful Exhibitor. WELSH & RP YOUNGSTOCK SHOW
A busy start to the month, Fenella and I judged in NZ flew home and prepared 8 ponies. Whew!! We ended up taking 7 as I injured my back and the girls didn't want to cope with the yearling B colt. I was very proud as Fenella and Isabelle did a brilliant job with Isabelle leading the 3yr old WM colt R Ascot to take out the Welsh Medal winning Supreme Overall Welsh Exhibit. Fenella led the PW Gelding R Love Tangle to Best PW Foal Futurity and R Lyric a 2yr old WM filly to win Supreme WM. Lyric also won the Best Welsh Foal Futurity.
